Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

MSS405035 - Design a process layout

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Determine process for redesign

  1. Obtain or develop a process map of existing process
  2. Identify main products or classes of products produced by existing process
  3. Determine product families (or clusters) based on product profiles, sales forecasts and patterns and compatible process steps
  4. Determine process boundaries to accommodate one or more proposed families
  5. Make a preliminary selection of equipment, technology and process for proposed families
  6. Estimate required resource times for each family
  7. Calculate total resourcing required for each family
  8. Estimate appropriate lot size
  9. Evaluate costs, benefits and alignment to organisation’s competitive systems and practices approach to determine viability of proposed families and preliminary process layout

Design the infrastructure

  1. Consult with stakeholders to determine details of layout needs
  2. Identify physical infrastructure required by system
  3. Identify information and control infrastructure required
  4. Identify work organisation required
  5. Identify work health and safety (WHS) and other regulatory requirements
  6. Identify workforce development and training requirements
  7. Check the availability of required infrastructure and compatibility with requirements
  8. Draft proposed process flow map
  9. Draft proposed configuration diagram
  10. Draft proposed space plan or layout
  11. Check availability of services and structural suitability
  12. Validate proposed layout with stakeholders
  13. Finalise process layout
